Eloqua provides ample opportunity to help you get ahead of the curve with your 2014 planning. While you manage the lead up to Christmas and the extended break for many businesses you have some time to think about 2013, work out what worked and what didn't and determine what will change in 2014.
The first thing you want to do is access INSIGHT from the Eloqua 10 Menu Bar.
Once you've accessed Insight, you probably want to look at some dashboards to get a high level view into which campaigns have performed the best. Following these steps:

1. Click on "Reports & Dashboards"
2. Then click on "Campaigns"
3. Finally click on "Campaign Activity Performance Dashboard"

Take some time to click around and review overall campaign stats. You can repeat the process above for Emails.

At step 2, click on Emails and then Email Dashboards and finally Email Performance Dashboard.

The email dashboard looks at your highest performing emails by subject line. Click on the TOP 10 OVERVIEW tab to see a range of performance metrics.

Look For Opportunities to Recycle

By analysing your top performing 2013 campaigns and emails, you can look for opportunities to recycle content for 2014.

With Christmas just around the corner, I thought it might be timely to talk about the concept of "The Gift".

But before we get to that, I'd like to start with the concept of the "Equitable Trade". The concept of the Equitable Trade is where a prospect or contact is prepared to give you some valuable information in exchange for something you are prepared to share with them in exchange.

Here are some simple examples of what might be called an equitable trade:
  • Email address and Mobile number in exchange for a free Whitepaper or Video.
  • Geolocation enabled for an app in exchange for location based offers.

  • Grant access to your LinkedIn data in exchange for Single Sign on for Apps that you trust
  • Ultimately - this is the power behind LinkedIn, the magic behind Genius and Google and so many more.

Prospects and customers are prepared to do this exchange as long as they perceive it to be equitable (or in their favour!).

This is a great way to grow your customers profile and preference information, in turn enabling more personalised, relevant and timely communications.

So what is "The Gift"?


A gift or a present is an object given without the expectation of payment. Although gift-giving might involve an expectation of reciprocity, a gift is meant to be free.
So as well as bearing this in mind for Christmas, it's worth thinking about this for your customers. It does not have to be a physical gift, it could be just a spontaneous communication or thank you.
