Welcome
One way to keep on top of your database size is by removing Hard Bounces. Hard bounce emails take up space and serve no value because you can't email them anyway. Use segments to find your hard bounces (see the video above for details) and remove them from Eloqua.

If Eloqua is integrated with your CRM or other systems, you could let the respective team know that manages that system and have them update the contact profiles or perhaps get the call centre to make some outbound calls to obtain people's new email addresses.
All Eloqua 10 customers had access to the new "Create a Simple Email Campaign" feature by the end of July 2014. The function is explained in detail HERE in our recent blog post.

Check the blog post for a time frame on when you can expect to see this and many other new features. If you have any questions, please call our Support team on  02 8244 0007.

You'll find a complete list of the Summer Release (Jun/Jul) features HERE on Topliners. You may need to login to Topliners to gain access. If you don't have acces to the Group, request it.

Managing your database size helps save money and improve the statistical reporting of your campaigns
Remove Hard Bounces
from your segments to ensure a better quality statistical outcome. There's no point having hard bounces lower the statistical performance
of your campaign.
Over the past few months we've had some recurring discussions with many of our customers and we thought Outside The Cube was the perfect avenue to share some updates. You'll find a range of topics below with links to Marketing Cube College where we have a variety of resources to help Your organisation get more out of Oracle Eloqua Marketing Cloud.
How many contacts do you have in Eloqua?
Your organisation has an agreement with Oracle that includes X number of contacts in your database. This limit can be increased at any time should you need to.

In the meantime, managing your database size or "band" as it's called, ensures you're not charged for the extra capacity you're using beyond your contracted amount.

For example, if your contact band is 100,000 contacts and through an upload you exceed this by 10,000 contacts, Eloqua won't prevent you from uploading the contacts. That's a good thing, but keep in mind you could be hit with an invoice from Oracle for the excess usage.
Why remove Hard Bounced Emails?

In the graphic to the left you can see two segments. The one of the left is clean and has all hard bounces removed. As a tip, you should also exclude unsubscribes from this segment.

While Eloqua won't email unsubscribes even if they're in your segment when you place it on the Campaign Canvas, like Hard Bounces, they're included in your statistical reporting.

When you look at your reporting you want to have stats that reflect a segment of people that you can actually email, not a group that contains people you're not able to reach.
